  • Molecular Connections’ custom-curation services team assisted a top pharmaceutical company to step up the target discovery/ prioritization process by mining information on various biomedical entities of the specific targets and integrating the information onto the customers internal database.
  • Target safety data was manually curated from scientific literature for a list of molecular targets and drugs provided by the pharmaceutical company in order to prioritize targets for further research.
  • For a top pharmaceutical company we constructed an interactome of molecular components involved in the epigenetic regulation, in order for the client to identify signaling pathways and molecular targets involved in the amelioration of specific disease case.
  • We custom built a reaction database for one of our clients with extracting information from journals and patent publications to enable researchers to plan and execute their experiments. Curation of non-English chemical patent publications is challenging, during the project we developed a workflow to maintain high quality levels in terms of content accuracy and contextual relevance, which is impossible with just machine translation although translation technology is constantly evolving.
  • Mining clinical trials by combining automated and manual curation
This case study outlines two independent investigations using the clinical trial data to provide information for the clinical trial decision makers – the first identifies all the late stage combinatorial therapies within the therapeutic space of NSCLC and the second identifies the comparator drugs in the late stage trials.
  • Exploring the role of HDACs in Neoplasms and use of their inhibitors in Cancer Treatment.
Objective: To find out the frequently occurring neoplasms associated with HDAC-altered expression, drugs being used as HDAC inhibitors, and the processes encompassed by drugs to inhibit HDAC.
  • Studying the Interrelationships between PPARs,Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Rosiglitozone using XTractor™.
Objective: To explore the association of PPARs with type 2 diabetes mellitus, find the drugs interacting with type 2 diabetes mellitus via the PPARs and also discover the common protein player between Rosiglitazone, a PPARG agonist and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Identifying common GPCRs associated with hypoglycemia and diabetes.
Objective: To explore the GPCR types associated with hypoglycemic drugs, find the association of the above GPCRs with diabetes and also uncover the common GPCRs between diabetes and hypoglycemic drugs.
  • Understanding Pharmacologic actions, protein interactions and toxicity studies of Fluvoxamine using XTractor™.
Objective: To understand the Pharmacologic actions, protein interactions and toxicity of Fluvoxamine.
  • Understanding Pharmacologic actions, protein interactions and toxicity studies of Amitriptyline using XTractor™.
Objective: To understand the Pharmacologic actions, protein interactions and toxicity of Amitriptyline.
  • What’s common across Breast cancer, Lung cancer, Colon Cancer and Ovarian Cancer?
Objective: To track the common entities across Breast cancer, Lung cancer, Colon Cancer and Ovarian Cancer.
  • Understanding Pathology and Mechanisms of Dengue Virus Infections using XTractor™.
Objective: To eucidate Pathology and Mechanism of Dengue Virus Infections.
  • Understanding Multiple Target preferences for Imatinib(Gleevec) with XTractor™.
  • Tracking common gene polymorphisms across multiple Diseases with XTractor™.
  • Probable interaction networks involved in pathology of Alzheimer’s disease: predicting targets and therapeutic agents-NetPro™ based study.
Objective: To highlight the application of NetProTM in predicting interaction networks, potential targets and therapeutic agents for specific pathological conditions using high throughput data.
  • Using XTractor™ to investigate the application of RNAi in exploring p53 interactions and processes in cancer therapy.
Objective: To elucidate the application of RNAi in understanding the interactions of p53 and explore the common processes involved in RNAi cancer treatment.

  • Molecular Connections built an extensive multi subject ontology for a top publishing group by enhancing the client proprietary ontology. The ontology had a basic set of 2000 terms and it covered major concepts like biological entities, chemistry, physical science, techniques, models, to business terms. The fields that were covered within the ontology include – basic sciences like biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, social sciences and health sciences. The ontology was developed for indexing and search navigation of publishers articles.
  • Molecular Connections partnered with a major life-sciences publisher to device a hybrid method to deal with author name and institution disambiguation – through its proprietary offering MC Identify™. The strategic partnership has helped the publisher create author profiles with more than 99% accuracy. The workflow also facilitates identification of various related components including co-author profiles, net output of a research organization of interest etc., and helps in referee searches.
  • Understanding Pharmacologic actions, protein interactions and toxicity studies using XTractor™.
In this case study we extracted the Pharmacological actions, protein interactions and toxicity of various drugs and we also manually curated the side-effects from the drug labels.
  • We undertook a case study to identify the multiple target preferences and polypharmacology of a select set of drugs using the XTractor™ platform to identify the repurposing potential.
  • We custom built a reaction database for one of our clients by extracting information from journals and patent publications to enable researchers to plan and execute their experiments. Curation of non-English chemical patent publications is challenging, during the project we developed a workflow to maintain high quality levels in content accuracy and contextual relevance, which is impossible with just machine translation -although translation technology is constantly evolving.
  • Molecular Connections custom developed a software service to convert articles from XML to HTML format for a top publishing house. The Software developed was state-of-the-art and has several key features including providing HTML markup, for the all the publishers articles (as defined by the publisher).
  • A Publisher approached Molecular Connections to analyze the problem and devise a framework for dynamic author and affiliation disambiguation. The solution proposed by Molecular Connections resolved the problem by aggregation of metadata from a cluster of records to estimate the authors profile such as co-author distributions and keyword distributions, in order to predict how likely is it that a new record is “produced” by the same author.
  • Enriching an already existing ontology of ~18,000 terms to ~36,000 terms for a top publishing house with a turnaround time of less than three months.
  • Developing an ontology reflecting the content of the biomedical journals belonging to a top publisher and tagging the content of all the journals’ articles with the newly developed ontology.

  • A landscape search was performed on different types of Oral Care products and their manufacturers. The search was focused on the composition, kit and devices used for oral care. We also looked for the methods about how the oral care products are being used to solve the oral problems. Upcoming technology analysis in terms of worldwide patents was carried out in this domain. Various technology trends were derived and presented to provide a comprehensive overview of the domain.
  • Subject experts at Molecular Connections analyzed a set of more than 1000 patents provided by the client across the interactive messaging domain. The search was performed on free and commercial databases to shortlist relevant products/patents/companies in the technology domain. MC Research presented the insights along with executive summary for strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat of the domain. Various technology trends like innovation, patent distribution of some key players, were derived and presented to provide an overview of the domain.

  • A landscape cum novelty search was performed on the driving circuit technology of a specific LED light. The technical specification of the LED product was provided by the client. Upcoming technology analysis in terms of patents and product were carried out in this domain. The search was focused on method of controlling input power supply using a resonance circuit for isolating input and output terminal of the driving circuit. Various technology trends and market opportunity were derived and presented to provide an overview of the domain. Provided similar electronic products having stable and low noise driving circuit that resembles the specific technology. Revenue forecast of LED lighting helping the market opportunity of the product.
